What it is
Google DeepMind is the AI research lab inside Google. It builds the Gemini models that power Google’s Gemini app and AI features across Search, Android and Workspace.
History
DeepMind was founded in London in 2010 and bought by Google in 2014. On April 20, 2023, Google combined it with its other AI research team, Google Brain, to form Google DeepMind, with Demis Hassabis as CEO.
The lab is known for AlphaGo, the system that beat top human players at the board game Go, and AlphaFold, which predicts the 3D structure of proteins. In 2024, Demis Hassabis and John Jumper shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for that work.
